2017's Biggest Birding Events

2017's Biggest Birding Events

The biggest birding events of 2017

The biggest birding events 2017. With the lack of clear information online about Britain's biggest birding events. Kennedy Wild Bird Food have decided to list some of the more notable ones, so you won’t miss out on exploring the hobby you love. Here are our top 3:

British Bird Fair - Egleton, Rutland  (19th - 21st August)

Let’s start with the biggest international birding event of the year. With 25,000 visitors each year, and packed full of exhibitors and special guests, the British Bird Fair encompasses the entire spectrum of the birding industry whilst supporting global bird conservation. If you can only go to one event this year, make sure it’s this one. At Birdfair there are literally hundreds of stands selling the best and latest products for birding enthusiasts. From bird food to binoculars, to sculptures and scopes. Last year some of the bird fair regulars came back to host including Nick Baker and Chris Packham. With 6 locations at the fair all holding full programmes, there is something for everyone. The rest of the information will be available once everything is confirmed. So don’t forget to check back in June to see the full listing.

Spurn Migration Festival - Yorkshire East Coast (8-10th September 2017)

Bird migration is a magical wonder of the natural world. The Spurn Peninsula on the Yorkshire East Coast is quite possibly one of the best places in Britain to witness this spectacle. This great event is hosted at Westmere Farm, in Partnership with the BTO and SBO.  There's loads of cool stuff going on as well:
  • Inspirational talks from experts
  • Wader watching on high tide roosts
  • Sea watching
  • Bird ringing demonstrations
  • Plant and insect walks
  • Guided Migration watches
  • A hog roast on the Saturday at Westmere Farm

WWT Martin Mere - North West Bird Watching Festival - (Mid November 2017)

Whatever the weather, the North West Bird Festival at Martin Mere is an informative and enjoyable day out. It brings visitors from across the country to collectively enjoy the North West’s biggest event. Whether you are birdwatchers, photographers or just adore the outdoors, there is something for everyone. Over the years, the event has featured a whole host of wonderful guest speakers, including leading animal photographer Andy Rouse, BBC Springwatch Iolo Williams and RSPB’s Graham Jones. Whilst you are there you can attend the vast array of wildlife talks. Here you can pick up tips from the demonstrations, workshops whilst you can network with experts. Browse through all the wildlife and bird watching goodies on sale and round your day off at Mereside cafe whilst you tuck in some scrumptious homemade cake.

In the Meantime...

As these big birding events take place towards the back end of the year,  make sure you keep your bird food inventory well stocked, as these cold conditions can be tough on our birds. Especially now it’s started snowing!
