High energy ground feed
Our new high energy ground feed mixture has been blended and tested to offer your birds a nutritional, high energy food. Ideal for winter and springtime feeding when an additional energy boost is often required. Either scattered on the floor or placed on a table or ground feeder. This mixture contains whole nuts so we do not recommend during nesting season when fledglings are abundant. Use instead our standard ground feed mixture that contains split peanuts.

How to feed Ground Feed to birds
A ground feeder should be mounted no more than 10cm off the ground and it is advised that food is refreshed and that they are fractionally moved each day to minimise the build-up of droppings and the risk of disease. A variety of food can be offered on the ground feeders but be aware that larger types of bird (pheasants and pigeons) will be attracted to feed on these as well as smaller types (wren, starlings and robins).
Which birds eat from Ground Feeders?
Many birds love to feed from Ground Feeders but some actually prefer to feed from the stability of the ground.
The melodious voiced Blackbird is the most commonly spotted British bird. Blackbird’s will eat from a table although they tend to prefer ground feeders if given the choice.
The Robin is Britain’s national bird and is a real garden character. Robins are insectivores so need a high protein diet. They will eat from a bird table but prefer to peck straight from the ground.
The Dunnock can be a reserved bird that likes to keep under the shady cover of shrubbery and garden foliage so ground tables placed in quiet spots will best attract them.
